Mikal Bridges on Jalen Brunson: ‘We got Captain Clutch’

Mikal Bridges’ steal then secured a Game 2 win over the Celtics Wednesday night at TD Garden.  “We know when it gets close at the end of the game, a one-possession game, we got Captain Clutch,” Josh Hart said of Brunson.  Brunson finished with 17 points on 6-for-19 shooting from the field along with seven assists. His nine fourth-quarter points came after he poured in 11 during the fourth quarter of Game 1. This postseason, he has a combined 86 points in the fourth quarter — 20 more than the next closest player, Minnesota’s Anthony Edwards.

Look at Mikal Bridges again! I’ll be honest, I had Celtics in 5, tops. The Knicks going into Boston and coming back from double-digit deficits against the defending champs TWICE is damn impressive. These playoffs have been incredible so far – 9:25 PM

The Celtics took 60 3-pointers and missed a playoff record 45 of them. Meanwhile, the Knicks were again the picture of resilience, with 29 each from Brunson and OG.

Analytics geeks don’t want to hear this, but one reason Jalen Brunson is so clutch is his mid-range. He knows that spot is open. – 9:58 PM

Fantastic Game 1. Jalen Brunson and OG Anunoby were great, and Mikal Bridges made some huge plays in OT despite a poor shooting night. Knicks really couldn’t afford to lose The One Where The Celtics Shoot 25% From 3, but we’ve got a series! – 9:51 PM

Randle believes Edwards has a chance to be one of the best players in NBA history. But Randle refused to take credit for Edwards’ improved pregame routine. “I’m always just trying to find ways I can improve,” Randle said. “Ant’s the same way. He’s a student of the game. I don’t got to push Ant. Ant is his own man. I try my best to lead by example. But Ant, he’s never had a problem working his butt off. He’s always in the gym constantly getting his reps and extra work in. Me being 11 years in this league, playing with special players and ultimately playing with my idol, Kob, I just try to lead by example like he did and try to pass on what he gave to me. -via Andscape / May 7, 2025
“And just one more, on the shooting for you. We just got the numbers — you guys going 12 for 76 over the last two games is the worst three-point shooting in the history of the NBA playoffs for a team that was fourth in three-point percentage and fifth, I think, in three-pointers made.” Anthony Edwards: “12 for 70? God damn.” Reporter: “How do you even make sense of it?” Anthony Edwards: “You know, that’s how it goes. You know what I’m saying? You have stretches where you shoot the ball really, really well, then you have stretches where you shoot the ball really, really bad. You just hope the good outweighs the bad. And, you know, I’m not going to say it’s going bad for us right now. We just didn’t shoot it well tonight. I’m not really worried about the last series or whatever that was.” -via YouTube / May 7, 2025
“Coach was saying that he relies on you to set the tone from the start, and he didn’t quite see that. Do you feel like you were off at all in that department, or just in the way you started the game?” Anthony Edwards: “Nah, I feel like I played great defense. I just couldn’t do anything on offense. So… yeah.” -via YouTube / May 7, 2025
