The Warriors say De’Anthony Melton is getting close. Close enough that his season debut could finally happen next week.
Golden State announced that Melton will miss the final two games of the homestand against the Pelicans and Thunder, but the hope is he becomes available at some point on the upcoming three-game trip to Philadelphia, Cleveland and Chicago.
The team said Melton has made “good progress” in his recovery from a torn ACL and has been taking part in scrimmages with both the Warriors and the Santa Cruz affiliate.
That is usually the final box before clearance.
Melton signed with Golden State in July of 2024 on a one-year, $12.8 million deal, then appeared in only six games before the injury.
He had surgery on December 4 and missed the rest of the season. In those six games, he gave the Warriors 10.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.2 steals while shooting 37 percent from three.
He re-signed in October on a $3 million deal that carries a player option for 2026-27, and the Warriors believe he can be a real piece of the rotation once healthy.
The 27-year-old even drew Sixth Man of the Year votes with Memphis two seasons ago.
