DeMarcus Cousins: You can’t be a superstar if you’re only known in the States. I don’t consider that a superstar. The league is bigger than that—it’s a global brand. Once you start having that global impact, you go into that superstar status. I think it’s a combination of all those things. Charisma, as well. I mean, as great as Jokic is, you can’t sell him. You can’t market him because he’s not this great personality—and this is by choice. I had the opportunity to be teammates with him. He doesn’t care about the spotlight; he doesn’t want to be that type of guy. Then you have guys like Anthony Edwards—everything he says is gold, you know what I mean? So, obviously, charisma matters. I think it’s a combination of all those things. That’s what gets you a superstar.”

NEW: Nikola Jokic’s 2024-25 season was clearly MVP caliber.
He’s solidifying himself as a Top 10 player ever, and he might not be 10.

More on this storyline
Do you think Rajon Rondo would want to do this job? I know the coaching thing—and obviously, the brain—but would he want this job? DeMarcus Cousins: Absolutely. I think he would be the perfect guy for the job. I mean, if we praise JJ—and this is no knock, I think JJ is a really good coach—but if we praise JJ for his level of IQ and his understanding of the game, Rondo is light-years ahead of him. When it comes to any coaching job, I think his name should be in the hat. He’s a winner. He knows the game. He’s also a great teacher of the game—he was that when he was a player. -via YouTube / June 4, 2025
DeMarcus Cousins: “I think they lost (Kuminga). I think Steve Kerr ruined that relationship with the DNPs. We’ve seen this happen time and time again when it comes to him and dealing with young talent. He just doesn’t handle young talent well. He doesn’t develop young talent. I mean, out of the years he’s been there, we’ve seen one guy develop under Steve Kerr—and they ran him off as well—and that was Jordan Poole. So when it comes to young talent, I just don’t think they handle it well. And I can see Kaminga being on the move.” -via YouTube / May 21, 2025
Chandler Parsons: It’s going to be hard to jump over Bird, KD, and LeBron. Michelle Beadle: Does anybody have him jumping over Bird? Lou Williams: He can jump over guys if you add championships. DeMarcus Cousins: No. Let’s not do this. No. Beadle: Not even a little? Cousins: No. Williams: Yes, he can. Cousins: No. Larry Bird? No. Parsons: I don’t want that smoke. I give him maybe Pippen. Beadle: Why wouldn’t you put him over Pippen? Kawhi Leonard’s been the guy on a championship team. Parsons: Just availability, I suppose, is the only flaw. Beadle: Okay, but when he’s there… Williams: Why is Larry Bird untouched? Why is Larry Bird an untouchable in this conversation? I’m not challenging nothing about Larry Bird. I’m asking why is he an untouchable in this conversation when we’re throwing out LeBron James, Kevin Durant…We’re throwing out so many people, but when it comes to Larry Bird, you’re all shutting down, I don’t understand. Parsons: Three time champ, two-time NBA finals MVP, three-time MVP, 12 time All-Star… Williams: You don’t have to tell me, I know exactly who Larry Bird is. Parsons: Nine-time first team. Lary Bird is even a three-time all-defensive team. Cousins: Can we not do this? Williams: Then Larry Bird is number one then, right? Based on your logic. Cousins: No. It’s LeBron James, then Larry Bird. -via YouTube / April 25, 2025
LeBron James: “And then (the Thunder) come off the bench with one of my favorite teammates of all time, Alex Caruso, who is like the dog. He’s the ultimate Swiss Army knife. We’ve literally seen him guard Giannis. We’ve seen him guard the Joker. You know, we’ve seen him guard Ant, we’ve seen him guard Julius Randle, we’ve seen him guard Jamal Murray throughout this whole postseason.” -via YouTube / June 4, 2025
“I will say that I love it here,” Randle said. “This is the most meaningful basketball I’ve played in my career, and from how the organization has made me feel from the front office, my teammates, and playing with Ant (Anthony Edwards) as our leader, I love it. There’s a lot to be excited about. Having the ability to compete for a championship is everything I could ask for at this point in my career.” -via HoopsHype / June 4, 2025
Michael Scotto: Minnesota Timberwolves President Tim Connelly on Anthony Edwards: “The sky is the limit. We think he’s going to be one of the best players of all time, and we think he’s on that track.” -via Twitter @MikeAScotto / June 2, 2025
